Scotland: 1810 - 1820

Douglas spends most of his teenage years working as an apprentice in the gardens of Scone Palace near his home. His enthusiasm makes him a favorite of the head gardener, but his mischievous disposition sometimes leads to quarrels with the other boys. When they complain about Douglas, their master replies, "I like a devil better than a dolt."
